On the Helles Memorial is the name of PO/404(S) Private Robert Robinson Shaw, serving with the Royal Marine Light Infantry, who died 26/06/1915.

Derek Johnstone and Carole Fife have provided the following:

Robert Robinson Shaw was born in Bedlington, Northumberland on the 2nd July 1894. His parents were William Robinson Shaw, a hewer in the coal mines born at Whitby, Yorkshire and Martha Shaw also born at Whitby.

In 1901 Robert aged 6 was living with siblings Mary 14, Martha 12, William 11, Nellie 8, Charlie 4 and Herbert aged 2 at Hollymount, Bedlington. All the children had the middle name Robinson.

Robert worked in the coal mines as a pony driver below ground in 1911 when he was aged 16. His family were now living at 2, Beech Grove, Bedlington.

Colin Boyd adds:
Robert was born on 2nd July 1894 and was serving in the Royal Marine Light Infantry. His next of kin was stated to be his father, William living at 2, Beech Grove, Bedlington. Robert joined the Portsmouth Battalion in Gallipoli on the 30th May 1915 and was posted as missing assumed killed in action on the 24th June 1915.

His brothers Frank Robinson Shaw and William Robinson Shaw also died in the Great War. William and Robert had consecutive service numbers.

Robert Robinson Shaw is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04, in Bedlington on B15.19 and B15.20
