BEDLINGTON STATION

Mouter, W., Spr., 1917
In Reningheist New Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 265542 Sapper William Mouter serving with the Royal Engineers who died 28/11/1917.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

William was born in Bedlington in 1892, the only son of William and Eleanor Mouter. His father died in 1895 and his mother re-married in 1901 to Nicholas Wharrier. In 1911 Nicholas was a pit deputy and the family lived at Rothesay Terrace, Bedlington Station. William married Jessie Miller in the spring of 1917. In the 1911 census William is listed as a Colliery Boiler Fireman, and the 'Blyth News' of 20/12/1917 describes him as a 'mechanic at Bedlington Colliery' which is probably why he enlisted in the Royal Engineers. At the time of his death he was serving with 21st Light Train Crew Company, and a letter from his officer explains that he was killed by a premature shell burst. He was buried in the cemetery attached to the field ambulance station at Reningheist.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04, in Bedlington on B15.06 and in Ashington on A17.43
