Knox, N., Pte., 1916
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 23/639 Private Nicholas Knox, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Nicholas was born 11th January 1897 in Bedlington, the first of ten children to James and Isabella Knox. In both the 1901 and 1911 censuses the family was living at Ravensworth Terrace, Bedlington, with James being first a candle-maker and then a colliery labourer. Nicholas enlisted in the 23rd (Tyneside Scottish) Northumberland Fusiliers and was killed on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. The 'Blyth News' of 31st August 1916 lists him as missing.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04
