BEDLINGTON STATION

Hedley, T., Pte., 1918
In Etaples Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 10459 Private Thomas Hedley, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died between 24/07/1918 and 25/07/1918.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Thomas was born in Great Houghton in Yorkshire in 1893, the eldest son of Joseph and Ann. All his siblings were born in Blyth, and his father died in 1899 so in the 1901 census Ann and her six children were living with her parents in Sproat Street, Blyth. I cannot find Thomas on the 1911 census, but a Thomas Hedley married Susanna Cole in 1914 in Bedlington, and Thomas enlisted in Bedlington into 19th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (2nd Tyneside Commercials). He is buried in Etaples, where there was a large number of base hospitals so it would appear that he died of wounds.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04
