Ernest Herbert Turner was born at Oxford 14th July 1886, the son of Ernest Turner of 6 Howard Terrace, Bank Top, Bedlington, Northumberland, and his wife Elizabeth Ann, daughter of Henry Hyatt.
Ernest was educated at the Broomhill Colliery School, and was employed as a miner.
He married at Bedlington Parish Church on the 3rd January 1914 Margaret Harrison, (1 Cragg's Buildings, Bank Top, Bedlington), daughter of Isaac Nicholson of Bedlington.
Ernest enlisted on the 30th May 1905 in the Coldstream Guards, and was sent to France on the 10th August 1914.
He was killed in action at Soupir, on the 16th September 1914.
