On the Ploegsteert Memorial is the name of 41609 Private Thomas Wilkinson serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 11/04/1918.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Thomas was born in Bedlington in 1898, the youngest child of Thomas and Christina Wilkinson who had lived in Newcastle before moving to Bedlington Station in the mid 1890s. His father was a miner, and the 1911 census shows Thomas working at the pit as a trapper boy.

Thomas enlisted into the Northumberland Fusiliers as Private 24646, but was then transferred to 792 Area Employment Company of the Labour Corps as Private 480233 before returning to the 1st/4th Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers as Private 41609.

His death date is given as 11th April 1918, but his record shows him as 'presumed dead'.

He is remembered in Bedlington Station on B163.04
