On the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme is the name of 20/575 Private John Buddles Jordan serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers (Tyneside Scottish) 20th Battalion who died 01/07/1916.

Derek Johnstone has provided the following:

John Buddles Jordan, the son of William and Elizabeth Jordan, was born at Longframlington, Northumberland in 1896. His family lived at Main Street, Longframlington in 1901 when John was 4 years old. In the 1911 Census John was 14, working as stone pony putter in the coal mines and living with his family at 24, Doctor Terrace Bedlington. His mother’s maiden name was Buddles and this is included in John’s full name. John was living at the family home when he enlisted at Bedlington. There is no evidence to indicate John was married and he was 19 years old when he was killed.

Morpeth Herald 08/09/1916 carries the following:

Private J.B. Jordan, Bedlington, missing.

Morpeth Herald 20/04/1917 carries a brief obituary:

ROLL OF HONOUR

JORDON- Missing since July 1st, 1916, now presumed dead, Private John Buddles, No.575, N.F., eldest and dearly beloved son of William and Elizabeth Jordon, 25 Doctor Terrace, Bedlington, and grandson of the late John and Jane Buddles of Longframlington.- Deeply mourned by his father, mother, brothers and sisters.
