David Hardy was the youngest son of George and Isabella Hardy (nee Burn) and was born about 1900 at Bedlington, Northumberland. David’s father was born in Barrington and was a miner. His brothers James and Gabriel were both colliery blacksmiths according to the 1911 census which shows David was still at school aged 11. In all probability, like all his family, he would have worked in the coal mines before he enlisted when living 20, Shiney Row, Bedlington.

David was awarded the Military Medal prior to his injury at a very young age. He was wounded by gas in action on 16th October 1918 and died on 3rd November 1918 from pneumonia. Following his death his effects went to his father which indicates he was not married.

David Hardy is remembered in Bedlington on B15.02, B15.09, B15.20 and B15.26 page 40
