BEDLINGTON

Crickmer, L., Sjt., 1920
Leslie Crickmer, service number 31185, was a Serjeant in the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment. He served in India, but doesn't have a CWGC entry because possibly he died after discharge.

Carole Fife has provided the following:

Leslie was born in Beverley, East Yorkshire, in 1893. He appears in the 1901 census living at Wadsley Park, Ecclesfield, near Sheffield, where his father was the Lodge Keeper. His parents, Gerald and Edith, had been born and married in Beverley but moved to Sheffield shortly after Leslie was born. Leslie appears in the 1911 census in Bedlington, boarding at a house called Spring View on Front Street. This large building housed Robert Syall, an oil merchant, and his family, and four boarders including Leslie Crickmer, a bank clerk from Beverley whose age was given as 28 rather than 18. Leslie served in India, a posting that caused many troops to die from tropical diseases. He gave his enlistment address as Front Street, and he died in the Bedlington area in 1920. I cannot find a marriage for Leslie, but I found a birth for a Leslie B. Crickmer in 1916.

He is remembered at Bedlington on B15.02, B15.09 and B15.26 page 74
