Sgt (Flight Engineer) J T Smith (Service Nš 1603576) of 199 Sqn, was killed when his Short Stirling III EE917 EX-L was shot down by a German night fighter on a mission to Munchengladbach. It crashed at 03.56 at Eind, in Holland. He is buried in Eindhoven (Woensel) General Cemetery.Royal Air Force Bomber Command Losses of the Second World War: 1943;W.R. Stirling EE917 EX-L had departed Lakenheath at 0040 for Ops Muchengladbach. It was intercepted at 3200M between Nederweert and Kelpen by a Night-Fighter captained by Ofw Bruno Eikmeier (II/NJG1) and shot down at 0356 for his 6th Abschuss.
