Bell, R., R/Off., 1939
In Annan Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Radio Officer Ralph Bell of Branton, serving with the Merchant Navy on the S.S. Magdapur who died 10/09/1939.

The S.S. Magdapur was a cargo ship of 8641 tons which was sunk by a mine in daylight off the coast at Aldeburgh. Six of her 81 crew were killed. The rest were rescued by the Aldeburgh Lifeboat.

He is remembered in Powburn on P39.01 and on our List of Ships’ crews
