In Hanover War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 173905 Flying Officer Francis Swan Renton, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 05/01/1945.

F/O Renton was serving with 550 Squadron. He was a crew member of Lancaster I NG331 BQ-M which took off from North Killingholme on a mission to Hannover. The aircraft is thought to have been shot down by flak in the outskirts of Hanover. Six men died, the seventh was taken prisoner.

On this one night 36 aircraft were lost, with an average crew of 7 per aircraft.
