In Longhoughton (St Peter) Cemetery is the family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of
John beloved husband of
E.J. Butters who died
April 8 1903, aged 51 years
William their dear & eldest son
died April 30 1905, aged 20 years
and of John Kim Butters
their dear & youngest son
who died from wounds received
in action near La Boisselle
June 12 1916, aged 28 years
Interred at Etretat, France

John Kim was the youngest son of the late John and Elizabeth Jane Butters.

He was born at Rennington, Northumberland in the first quarter of 1888.

Prior to enlisting he worked as a Draper’s Assistant and was living at 37 Dockwray Square, North Shields.

He died at No.1 General Hospital, Etretat, France from gunshot wounds to the face.
