In Embleton (Spitalford) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Sacred
To the memory of
The sons of
George and Mabel.
Trooper
Bertram C. Waterson
Missing is Burma May 1942
Aged 26 years.
Flying Officer
Harold B. Waterson
Killed in India 29th April 1943
Aged 24 years.
“Splendid they passed
The great surrender made”.

Sam Lowe has provided this photo of Flying Officer Waterson. On the back is written:
"F/Officer Harold B. (Dick) Waterson
Younger son of Co-op Farm manager
Mr. Waterson & Mrs. Waterson.
killed on active service 29/4/43."

An unidentified newspaper reports
"Leamington College
The school stood in silence at Friday afternoon's assembly when the headmaster announced the death of Flying Officer H.B. Waterson, R.A.F., who was killed on April 29th in India, where he had been a pilot since the outbreak of war. G.B. Waterson (of a mechanised cavalry regiment) is still reported missing. He was last seen in action in Burma in May 1942."

Sam Lowe has also submitted the following:

Harold Waterson died on a training flight in a RAF Vengeance aircraft serial numbered AN997.

On board was a Pilot Officer M. K. Chand, an Indian trainee Air Gunner and a member of 8 Sqn.

The crash took place at 152 (Bomber) Operational Training Unit based at RAF Peshawar, Pakistan. Both men were killed.
