"Mr and Mrs George Geggie, Blue Bell Hotel, Amble, have received the following communication from the York Records Office with reference to their son, Lance-Corporal [sic] George William Geggie, 7th N.F.:- 'It is my painful duty to inform you that no further news having been received relative to Lance-Corporal George William Geggie, of the 1/7th Northumberland Fusiliers, who has been missing since April 26th, 1915, the Army Council have been regretfully constrained to conclude that he is dead, and that his death took place on the 26th April, 1915. I am to express to you the sympathy of the Army Council with you in your loss' "

Jane White has contributed the following:

"George William Geggie was the son of one of my mother's great aunts, Johanna Charlton. One of her sisters, Anna was my mother's maternal grandmother, who married Samuel Earp. Their daughter was Margaret whose married name was James. This connection with George William Geggie is distant but we always feel for his loss when he is mentioned. I remember my mom telling me his parents ran the Bluebell Inn, Amble. Johanna died in her 50s, we think because of her loss. Thank you for keeping his memory alive."

George William Geggie is remembered at Amble on A13.01, A13.03 and A13.07 and in the Battalion History
