Johnson, R., Pte., awarded D.C.M., 1916
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 31/10/1916 reports:

"D.C.M. Presentation at Amble.
Private Robert Johnson, who has been awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery in the field, was the guest of the Committee of the Amble Heroes Fund, and was given a testimonial in the form of an illuminated address. The function was held in the Amble Picture Hall, and a large number of townspeople were present. The chair was occupied by Mr. T. Tulley, and the presentation was made by the Rev. T.H. Dunscombe, the vicar of Amble, who paid a high tribute to the work of Pte Johnson, who was a stretcher-bearer with the Northumberland Fusiliers. He then formally presented the address, and Pte. Johnson suitably replied."
