Fenwicke-Clennell, E., Pt/Off., 1942
In Oberschleissheim Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of 139612 Pilot Officer Edward Fenwicke-Clennell, serving with the Royal Air Force who died 21/12/1942.

Simon Glancey has submitted the following:
Pilot Officer Fenwicke-Clennell, of Harbottle, was the pilot of Lancaster I W4185 WS-G of 9 Squadron, which was lost on the night of 21-22 December 1942 on a mission to Munich and crashed at Oberschleissheim, 10 km north of Munich. The cause of the loss is not known. Of the crew of five British and two Canadian airmen, only one survived to be taken P.o.W.

Tony Hibberd has provided the following:
Lancaster W4185 WS-g had departed Waddington at 1734 foir Ops Munich. It was engaged by 1/schw Flak Abt 384 and 1 & 4/schw Flak Abt 405, hit and shot down. The aircraft crashed at Rothsschwaige, 2km SE of Dachau at 21.30.

The Berwick Advertiser 07/01/1943 reported:
"Flight-Sergeant* Edward Fenwicke-Clennell, R.A.F., is reported missing from air operations. He is a son of the late Capt. E. C. Fenwicke-Clennell, Harbottle, and a nephew of Col. G. E. Fenwicke-Clennell, R.N.F., who is a prisoner of war in Germany."

*The London Gazette 23/03/1943 announced his commission as a Pilot Officer, dated from December 12th 1942. His Service Number was 1142206 prior to his commission.
