In the Canadian Cemetery No 2, Neuville-St. Vaast is the Commonwealth War Grave of 55984 2nd Lieutenant Percival Stuart Cull, serving with the 3rd Battalion (Reserve) Northumberland Fusiliers who died 14/04/1918.

Percival Stuart Cull was born on the 26th March 1897, at St Martin's, Guernsey, the eldest son of the late Reverend Edward Percival Stebbing Cull, of Guernsey, Channel Islands, and his wife Nellie Stuart, daughter of T. W. Prince of Richmond, Yorkshire.

Percival was educated at Elizabeth College, Guernsey. He went to Canada in February 1912, and settled in Ontario as a Fruit Grower.

Percival enlisted at St Catherine's Ontario, on the 26th 1914. He was taken on strength for active service in the 19th Canadian Infantry Battalion on the 7th November 1914. Then proceeded to France on the 14th September 1915.

[As part of the Fourth Infantry Brigade, Second Division, the 19th battalion saw its first action at St. Eloi, France in 1916. It then went on to distinguish itself in the battles of the Somme, Courcellette, Vimy Ridge, Hill 70, Passchendale, Drocourt-Quant, and the pursuit to Mons. It was the pipes and drums of the 19th that led a victorious Canadian Corps across the Rhine and into Germany].

He then returned to the UK for his commission in November 1916, where he was gazetted a 2nd Lieutenant.

Percival was attached to the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.

He resided at Simonburn Rectory, Humshaugh-on-Tyne Northumberland, where his father was the Reverend.

Percival was in France from June 1917. He was killed in action at La Conture, north east of Bethune on the 14th April 1918.

He was unmarried.

He was mentioned in Despatches by Field Marshall, Sir Douglas Haig, for gallant and distinguished service in the field.

After the war his parents moved to "Maritana", Church Road, Gurnard, Cowes Isle of Wight.
