On the Le Touret Memorial is the name of 1408 Private Richard Thomas Harborne, serving with the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 18/10/1914.

Richard Thomas Harborne was born in 1885, in Sparkbrook, Birmingham the only son of Richard and Agnes Harborne, of 50 St. John's Road, Sparkhill, Birmingham. They had three children.

In 1901, he was a machine minder, also with his two sisters Agnes and Lizzie they were all living then at 88 St John's Road.

Sometime after this date, Richard enlisted into the 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers with the service number 1408. In 1911, he was with the rest of his battalion, in Barracks.

Served with the Expeditionary Force from the 13th August 1914, which would have entitled him to receive the 1914 Star.

He was killed on the 18th October 1914. At Pont Du Hem and Herlies. [In the 1st Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers War Diary is a list of casualties, and his name , albeit with the wrong service number, is shown as a casualty].

His parents had written a letter to the Infantry Office at York requesting them to 'dispose of his Medal', in 1921
