Hay, C., Pte., 1915
In Sanctuary Wood Cemetery is the name of 11037 Private Christopher Hay, serving with the 2nd Battalion, Scots Guards who died 25/09/1915.

Christopher Hay was born on the 29th August 1888 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, son of (the late) Christopher Hay, Striker, and his wife Sarah Hannah, daughter of Joseph Bell.

He was educated at the Royal Jubilee School at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and was a Turner. He served his apprenticeship with Donkins at Walkergate.

He volunteered and enlisted on the 7th September 1914 and served with the British Expeditionary Force in France from February 1915. He was wounded in the great attack by the Guards at the Battle of Loos, he died of his wounds at the Dressing Station based at Vermelles on the 25th September 1915. He was not married.
