Sladin, J.H., 2nd Lieut., 1919

In Newburn (Lemington) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 2nd Lieutenant John Henry Sladin, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 07/02/1919.

The headstone reads:

In
loving memory
of
John Henry Sladin, Sec. Lt. N. Fus.
third son of
M.R. and the late B. Sladin,
died Feb. 7th 1919,
aged 28 years.
grandson of J.M & M.J. Wood
of Lemington.

“Not dead but sleepeth”

John Henry was born 3rd June 1892. He is recorded as being Private 2233, Northumberland Hussars, prior to his promotion to Temp. 2nd Lieutenant, according to the London Gazette of 28/11/1917. He was awarded the Silver War Badge on 19th July 1918.
