In Old Jesmond General Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Second Lieutenant John Gray serving with the 3rd Reserve Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) who died 26/11/1918.

The headstone reads:

In
affectionate remembrance
of
Sec. Lieut. John Gray, West Yorks Regt.
who died Nov. 28th 1918 aged 23 years.
dearly beloved son of John & Mary Gray
(This line is indecipherable)
also of Mary
dearly beloved wife of John Gray
who died Nov. 27th 1972 aged 89 years
also of the above John Gray
who died March 8th 1954 aged 87 years
