In Newcastle-upon-Tyne (St.Andrew’s and Jesmond) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

954002 Sergeant
W.A. Buchan
Air Gunner
Royal Air Force
24th March 1944 age 28.

At the going down
Of the sun
And in the morning
We will remember them.

Sgt. Buchan was serving with 158 Squadron. He was a crew member of Halifax III LW718 WP-T which took off from Lissett on a mission to Berlin. The aircraft developed engine trouble and the sortie was abandoned. The aircraft crashed in sands at Winterton-on-Sea, Norfolk. It landed on a mined beach setting off a mine which exploded.
