In Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (St. Andrew's and Jesmond) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of:

290 Trooper
J.F. Lewis
Royal Canadian Dragoons
9th July 1915 age 32

Gone but not forgotten.

Coroner's report No. 318 dated 10th July 1915:

"James Frederick Lewis aged 30 years. No. 290 Private Royal Canadian Dragoons, died in 1st Northern General Hospital at 3.35pm on 9th."

After enquiries Coroner granted a certificate. No inquest necessary. Injured at seat of war."

Additional research: He was born on the 16th April 1885 in Bristol, Somerset; his trade was a farmer. He enlisted on the 24th September 1914 and was unmarried. He was posted to 'A' Squadron Canadian Divisional Cyclist Company.
