On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of Lieutenant John Gibson, serving with the Yorkshire Regiment who died 05/07/1916.

In Newcastle upon Tyne (St.John's Westgate and Elswick) Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Erected to the memory
of
Samuel
dearly beloved husband of
Emma Janet Gibson
who died Dec. 22nd 1894
aged 34 years.
Also John son of the above
killed in action July 1916
aged 23 years
Also John Gibson Hobson
grandson of the above names
Samuel and Emma Janet
killed in action July 1944.
Also the above named
Emma Janet
who died Nov. 26th 1947
