On the Helles Memorial is the name of KX/549 Able Seaman Robert Spencer, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 06/05/1915.

Colin Boyd has submitted the following:

Robert was born in 1881. He was working as an ironmonger living with his wife, Elizabeth at 139, Harriett Street, Byker when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on September 4th 1914.

He transferred to the RNVR on September 9th 1914 and joined the Hood Battalion on the same day.

Robert was posted as missing assumed killed in action in Gallipoli on May 6th 1915.
