Douglass, J., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Able Seaman James Douglass, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 13/07/1915.

Colin Boyd has submitted the following:

James was born on 6th July 1894 and was working as a screener living with his half brother, Robert Ure, living at 1, Salisbury Street, Byker when he enlisted in the Royal Naval Division on 15th October 1914.

He was posted to the Benbow Battalion 22nd February 1915 and then transferred to the Nelson Battalion on 12th June 1915. He was posted as missing assumed killed in action on 13th July 1915 in Gallipoli.

James Douglass is remembered in Byker on B95.10
