In Tilburg (Gilzerbaan) General Cemetery, in thé Noord-Brabant region of the Netherlands, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 528418 Sergeant Douglas Haigh Howland, serving with the Royal Air Force, who died 08/05/1945.

It is thought Sgt. Howland, of 6488 Servicing Echelon, died on V.E. Day in a road traffic accident in Berkel-Enschot in the Netherlands. Five other men lost their lives when their vehicle hit a tree.

He is remembered in Benwell on B86.03
