The Lord Mayor said that during his term of office he had several duties like this present one to perform, and this was the second time he had had to decorate a Liddell with the D.C.M. He remarked that there must be something in the name of Liddell to inspire brave and worthy deeds.“

The article goes on to report that Cpl. Liddell was then also presented with a gold watch, the gift of the owners and Liddell’s fellow-workmen at Benwell Colliery. Mrs. Liddell was presented with a gold bracelet.
