The headstone reads:-

In
loving memory of
Jennie Ann
beloved wife of Joseph C. Scott.
died 11th Oct. 1937, aged 62 years.
also of Walton Scott, R.O.A.C., son of the above
died 8th July 1940, aged 22 years.

The Geordie at War Project states:

“During World War 2 the main function of the RAOC was the supply and repair of the Army’s vehicles, equipment, weapons and ammunition. This was achieved from two major Depots in England – Chilwell and Donnington. With wartime expansion depots were established in every theatre of war to meet the needs of the army. In 1942 the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers was established to take over the repair functions and at the same time the RAOC took over vehicle organisations from the Royal Army Service Corps. With post war reductions in the Army the RAOC was absorbed into the Royal Logistics Corps in 1993.

There is little information about Private Scott. Extensive enquiries have failed to produce any information relating to the circumstances of his death. As he is buried in St.James Churchyard the likelihood is that he died in England. Whether this was as the result of an accident is unknown.”
