Sgt. Ridley of 616 Squadron was killed when his Supermarine Spitfire 1a was shot down over Dover by Luftwaffe pilot Hptm. Fözö of 4./JG51. It is thought Ridley was flying either Spitfire R6758 or R6633. He had previously escaped unscathed when his Spitfire K9829 had been damaged by enemy fire over the North Sea.
