On the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, is the name of 2431 Private John Leadbitter Gibson, serving with the 1st/4th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 26/04/1915.

Soldiers Died in the Great War states that he was born in Pegswood and enlisted in Newburn.

Morpeth Herald 04/06/1915 carries a brief obituary:
Pte. J.L. Gibson, 25 Millfield Lane, Newburn, was killed on April 26th. Private Gibson was a deputy-overman at Blucher Pit, Walbottle, and held two mining certificates. When he left home he left a wife and four children, but one of these has died since.
