Robert Oswald was born on 8th August 1918, the youngest son of Robert Veitch and Elizabeth Harlington Brown of Newburn. Prior to enlisting he worked as an assistant gardener.

He served with the 5th Battalion although had been attested for the Royal Engineers in 1938.

He was reported as wounded and later died from those wounds.

Robert Oswald appears on the Army Roll of Honour, 1939-1945.
