On the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France, is the name of 22/362 Private James Spence Sutton, serving with the 22nd (Tyneside Scottish) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, who died 01/07/1916.

Morpeth Herald 12/01/1917 carries a brief obituary:

After having been missing since July 1st, Private James Spencer [sic] Sutton, 3 Bowsden Terrace, South Gosforth, is reported killed in action on that date.

He is not remembered on any memorial at Gosforth.
