Cormack, W., Pte., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of 12753 Private William Cormack, serving with the 8th (Service) Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 07/08/1915.

William Cormack was born in Edinburgh, on the 16th September 1885, he was the eldest son of Alexander White Cormack, of 10 Stewart Terrace, Edinburgh, Mason, and his wife, Jane Dunn, daughter of William Richardson.

William was educated at Gorgle School and was employed as a Miner at Dinnington Colliery. He married in Newcastle-upon-Tyne Mary Jane Edith (2 Windt Street, Hazelrigg, Dudley, daughter of Ralph Wilson.)

They had a son Alexander Wilson who was born 30th December 1913.

William enlisted on the 8th October 1914, and was sent to the Dardanelles on the 5th July 1915. He was killed in action at Sulva Bay on the 7th August 1915.
