The Royal Victoria Infirmary Coroner's Report No 202 11th April 1917 reads:
"Horatio James Nelson Mcdonald aged 36 years. Gunner No. 969 Royal Garrison Artillery, Tynemouth. Home address. No 35 Eden Street, Wallsend, died in 1st Northern General Hospital at 10.30 am on the 10th.
Deceased died from the effects of wounds to his throat self inflicted whilst in a depressed state of mind."
