On the Helles Memorial is the name of KX/320 Able Seaman George Spowart, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 06/05/1915.

Colin Boyd has provided the following:

George was born on 10th February 1894. He was working as a miner living with his parents, Alexander and Elizabeth at 1, Turners Terrace, Wallsend when he enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers on 3rd March 1914.

He transferred to the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on 9th September 1914 and joined the Hood Battalion on the same day. George was killed in action in Gallipoli on 6th May 1915.

The name of George Spowart is not on any local memorial.
