In Wallsend (Holy Cross) cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of 804282 Aircraftman 2nd Class Harold Stewart Melvin, serving with the Royal Air Force (Auxiliary Air Force) who died 13/10/1939.

The family headstone reads:

George
beloved husband of
Lily Melvin
died Dec. 26th. 1931 aged 37 years.
Also Pauline, their daughter
died April 17th 1925, aged 1 year.
Also Harold, L.A.C. their son
who was killed Oct. 13th 1939
aged 20 years.

Harold Stewart Melvin is remembered in a R.A.F. Book of Remembrance
