William was the son of Samuel Gilmore and Elizabeth Gilmore (both deceased), and the husband of Ellen Frances Gilmore, of 119 Gloucester Place, Portman Square, London.

William was born at Castlewellan, Co Down and enlisted at West Hartlepool, Co Durham. He resided at West Hartlepool. William's son John Stanley was born 19th April 1909 in Ireland.

William Gilmore is remembered in West Hartlepool on W111.86 page 16.
