John Gibbs
Sergeant John Gibbs, Service Number 7637, 6th Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers was killed in action on the 21/10/1916 according to the CWGC entry. [The source below quotes the 19th October]
John Gibbs joined the North East Railway in January 1897, as a shunter at West Hartlepool, and afterwards became a freight guard.
He enlisted shortly after the outbreak of war and being an old volunteer, soon gained promotion, and for a considerable time acted as a drill instructor.
He was held in very great respect by his friends in the Hartlepool district.
