Abrahamson, J.A., A/Smn., 1916
In Warloy-Baillon Comunal Cemetery Extension is the Commonwealth War Grave of Able Seaman Z/141 John Alexander Abrahamson, serving with the 188th Brigade Machine Gun Company of the 63rd Naval Division who died 16/11/1916.

He was born 26th June 1894, and was the eldest son of a Swedish grocer and general dealer, Oliver L Abrahamson, (born 1862), and his English wife, Jemima. They had 7 children.

In 1901 he was residing at 28 Bertram Street. Moving to 68 Bertram Street, (circa 1911) South Shields.

He was a house painter apprentice.

On the 14th September 1914, he enlisted with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserves, and was posted to the Drake Battalion, located at Blandford Camp (Dorset) in January 1915.

While fighting in the Dardanelles, he was wounded then invalided back to the UK in July 1915. He was then transferred to the British Expeditionary Force on 30th July 1916, and joined the 188th Brigade Machine Gun Company.

On the 13th November 1916, while fighting on the Western Front, he was wounded and was taken to the 2/1st South Midland Casualty Clearing Station. (located at Bohain or Bihecourt). He died of his wounds on the 16th November 1916 aged 22.

He is remembered at Harton on H104.03, at South Shields on S86.039, S86.65, S86. 081 and S86.082
