In Westoe Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Able Seaman W.H. Taylor, serving with the Mercantile Marine on S.S. "Phare" who died 31/10/1917.

The headstone reads:-

dearly beloved son of
Duncan and Ellen Taylor
who died Jan 26th 1907
aged 15 years
Also Isabella Hails
beloved daughter of the
above died Sept. 19th 1907
aged 18 years
William Hails
beloved son of the above
who was drowned at sea
through enemy action
on October 31st 1917
in his 31st year
Also of the above
Duncan G. Taylor
died Sept. 19th 1930
aged 70 years

Ellen H. Taylor
died Nov. 29th 1934
aged 74 years
