In Westoe Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Tyneside Z/8097 Able Seaman C.W. Taylor, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on H.M.S. "President III", who died 27/11/1918.

The headstone reads:-

the beloved wife of
James Taylor
who died February 27th 1878
aged 65 years
James Taylor
who died February 21st 1900
aged 72 years
Also Charles Williamson Taylor R.N.V.R.
Grandson of
James and Thomisina Taylor

died March 16th 1924 aged 66 years
