On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 2nd Lieutenant Lionel Louis Cleriel Tucker, serving with the 20th Battalion, (1st Tyneside Scottish) Northumberland Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

He was born 20th June 1894, and was the adopted son of Frances Georgina Tucker, wife of Albert James Tucker. Albert died in October 1902, and Frances was the manageress of the County Boro' Club in South Shields (later called The King Street Club). They resided at 18 King Street, South Shields.

Lionel joined Westoe Secondary School on the 24th August 1908, leaving on the 16th July 1909 to become an apprentice fitter and engineer at Readhead's in South Shields.

He joined the Northumberland Fusiliers as a Private and in May 1915 received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant.

On 1st July 1916 he was reported missing, and was believed to have been killed.
