He was born in South Shields, and attended Westoe school and later was employed by the N.E.R. at Tyne Dock, South Shields as a shunter.
He enlisted in South Shields.
He was killed in action with three other comrades on the 2nd August 1916. His battalion were the Pioneers for the 20th (Light) Division.
