Gibson, C., Pte., D.C.M., 1918
In Chapelle British Cemetery, Holnon, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 3/18273 Private Charles Gibson, serving with the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own) who died 19/09/1918.

The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 24/03/1919 reports:

On behalf of the War Office, the Mayor of South Shields (Coun. T. Sykes) has presented the D.C.M. to Mrs. Gibson, of Academy Hill, South Shields, the mother of Pte. Charles Gibson, 1st Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment, who after winning the distinction was killed in action.

Charles Gibson is remembered at South Shields on S86.020 and S86.039
