Jonathan Raine Stobbs was born on 4 September 1893, in Princess Street, Westoe, South Shields. His parents were Jonathan Stobbs and Maria Cunningham. In 1918, he married Alice Ann Honnor, they had 8 children.

He first served in the Durham Light Infantry, No. 30575, then transferred to the Labour Corp, No. 613259. Jonathan worked as a labourer for the Railway Construction before and after his army service.

In the 1950s, Jonathan had an allotment with hens, geese and rabbits. He would fill his wheelbarrow with eggs, selling them by knocking on doors in the Nook area and the posh houses in Westoe.

John died 2 October 1964, South Shields. Obituary Shields Gazette 03/10/1964.

He was awarded the Victory Medal & British Medal.

Jonathan is the youngest brother of John Robert Stobbs, and father of Jonathan Raine Stobbs Jr
