In Serre Road Cemetery No.2 is the Commonwealth War Grave of 19/545 Lance Serjeant James Lincoln, serving with the 19th Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers who died 08/07/1916.

Peter Hoy has submitted the following:

Lance-Sergeant James Lincoln, 19th Bn. Northumberland Fusiliers (2nd Tyneside Pioneers) (Divisional Pioneers, 35th Division), (19/545), KIA 8 July 1916 (Somme).

Born in South Shields. Enlisted in Newcastle. He resided at 27 Julian Avenue, South Shields.

He worked for the South Shields Council in the Borough Engineers Department for 13 years, first as a Junior Clerk, and then as a Storekeeper.

Arrived Doullens (3/7). To Acheux Wood (5/7). Attached to 29th Division (until 12/7). To Mailly-Maillet Wood (6/7). Work began on a new trench 1000 yards or so in length and situated about 100 yards in front of existing front line. To Harponville (9/7), Albert (10/7).]

He is remembered at South Shields on S86.143 and S86.145
