Gibbon, R.S., Pte., 1914-18
Peter Hoy has supplied the following:

Private Robert Snaith Gibbon, Gloucestershire Regt. (18631) and Labour Corps (564678), age unknown.

Son of Stephen (a plater’s helper in a shipyard) and Fanny Gibbon of 34 Buddle Street, Jarrow (in 1911).

[His father, Stephen, was born in Sunderland and was 43 in 1911. His mother, Fanny, was born in Bill Quay, Co. Durham, and was 45. They had then been married for 21 years and had had nine children, three still living.]

Siblings (1911 ages; both born in Jarrow): Emily (19) and William (17; a blast furnaces’ labourer).

Robert was born in Jarrow (South Shields – March quarter 1895). He was employed as a grocery errand boy in 1911.

Awarded the Silver War Badge – discharged from the Army on medical grounds. (5831).
