Sgt. Emery was serving with 1656 H.C.U. He was a crew member of Halifax II BB254 which took off from Lindholm on a night navigation training exercise. It failed to climb and crashed into gable end of a house in Hatfield and then into a poultry farm. It is thought that the flaps were raised instead of the undercarriage. Five were killed and two injured.
